This week in class our teacher has asked us to write a point of view from a character in the story To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I decided to do chapter 13 of Jem's point of view. This chapter has one particular important event which is Atticus Jem and Scout's father inviting there Aunt Alexandra to come and stay with them for a while. What Aunt Alexandra, Jem, and Scout do not realize is that it is the for the protection of the children, Jem and Scout. I’m confused why Aunt Alexandra is sitting on our porch and most importantly why is she here. As we enter the house Aunt Alexandra passes Calpurnia the bags and says “Put my bag in the front bedroom, Calpurnia.” I felt bad that Calpurnia had to take Aunt Alexandra’s things so I offered to take them. As I am walking to her room I notice that Scouts impression on her face, which she isn’t to thrilled about seeing Aunt Alexandra. Scout and Aunt Alexandra have a difficult relationship especially when she comments on Scouts outfits and the way Scout and I are being raised by Atticus our father. To me as the way I perceive it Atticus is doing a mighty fine job of raising Scout and I. After taking the suitcase to the bedroom that Aunty will be staying “with you for a while.” Scout and I exchange looks. I’m pretty sure that if Scout knows what this can mean either three days or can be up to thirty years. Either way it is going to be painful time with Aunt Alexandra for Scout and I. Aunt Alexandra is always trying to be in control of any situation. Randomly Aunty just says, “Jem’s growing up now and you are too,” saying directly to Scout. “We decided that it would be best for you to have some feminine influence.” Aunty seems to be directing all of these comments directly to Scout. Aunt Alexandra husband never joins us for anything. He always stays home at the landing and when we do go and visit he is always quiet. They begin to have a conversation and I can tell it is not going to be pleasant. Scout and I hear Atticus car pulls into the driveway. We run so fast to meet him at the door I nearly forgot how old I was. Scout jumped into Atticus arms are gives him a dry kiss. I remove his briefcase and bag. The first thing Scout asked is that if he knew that Aunty was here. He did know and his answer was very affirmative. Then he asked if she would like aunty to come stay with us. I could tell Scout was not to pleased about that but she said yes and she would like it dearly. Atticus says that he needs more help around the house especially since summer is going to be a hot one. I have never seen Maycomb and Maycomb's women be so generous. They are constantly inviting her to teas and backing her all sorts of things. Those Maycomb women are kissing up to her like I have never seen them so do before. All I can say for that matter is keep the bake goods coming. Aunty is apart of many organization, which somewhat aloud Scout and I only to be watched by Calpurnia. Aunty would never allow Calpurnia do touch any of the societies values. Aunt Alexandra had a way with people I will never understand but she fits into Maycomb very well. However, not in Scout and I’s world. We were raised differently and are different from her. Aunty always like everything to be perfect. This means that she most likely is going to have Atticus talk to us. As Atticus came to talk to Scout and I he begins say that we must act more like a gentlemen and lady. I’m confused because Atticus always tells us to be ourselves. | http://perezhilton.com/2015-02-03-harper-lee-to-kill-a-mockingbird-sequel-novel-go-set-a-watchman#.VN125IswjzI |

http://www.magneticmag.com/2013/04/watch-the-lxd-the-legion-of-extraordinary-dancers-ted-talk/#sthash.1y0otn2j.dpbs On Wednesday February 4 we watched a TED Talk video that is called the LXD. LXD stands for Eligent of Extraordinary Dancers. Jon M. Chu calls this the justice league of dancers. These dancers have the capability of what super heroes can do. They have super human strength and can make their bodies do extremely unnatural movements. Examples of dancers using human strength include being able to do turns upside just spinning with your heard or supporting yourself by just using one of your hands to spin all around. Some dancers have the capability of pulling there arm behind the shoulder. Each of the dancers in the video shows us a piece of work that they have choreographed. These pieces of dance show us a little bit about them and how much dance is a passion to them.
Majority of the video shows us four dancers each doing a solo on what type of style of dance they do. At the end of the video it shows us one big production of a man combining each style of dance they all preformed. Watching each of these videos of the dancers preforming really shows you the amount of passion they have for it. Each dance has a quote to represent themselves. For Madd Chadd his quote says, “When I dance, I want the people to question the reality of what they’re seeing.” J Smooth quote is It’s all about details everything I move has purpose.” J Smooth says that dance is like closing the line and then opening it. This relates to his dance moves because as he is dancing he is using his arms to this type of feature. For Kid David he says his quote is “it’s never what you do, it’s how it’s done.” When Kid David dances he says he never makes a concise decision on his move. I disagree with because you do have to make a decision before expressing the move. For Lil “C” is quote states that “I attempt to reflect the balance between weight, energy, and time.” When Lil “C” dances he also says that it grows into something bigger. I agree with this because when you first begin to dance it starts out, as a small step until you keep adding more to it and it becomes one big dance. For each of these quotes they all share one common purpose. This common purpose reflects on the type of dancer they are and why they dance the way they do. In this Ted Talk video they show a clip of the dancer. In this video you can hear the code switching in the dancers voices. This realates to what we are reading in class. We are reading To Kill A Mockingbird. In this book Calpurnia code-switches when she goes to church and talking to Lula. Normally when Scout and Jem hear her talk she is very formal with them but being outside and going to her own church her voice switches to something you would normally hear here talk. The dancers code-switch by what they are talking about which is dance. In class this past week we watched a video by John Lloyd called “An Animated Tour of Invisibility”. In this video we learned what John Lloyds view and other scientists view on invisibility are. Watching this video has had we questioned many things? These include what is life, is time really invisible, and why are the things most important to our universe the things that we cannot see. They are where two questions in the video that particularly that stood out to me these are “Why are we here?” and “What are we going to do about it?” The questions that I listed are important to me because they have not only questioned the universe but my own existence.
The presentation questions show how little we know about ourselves and the world around us. In fact some of the most important things about ourselves are the things that we know least about. John Lloyds calls these gaps of knowledge invisible. By his definition we live in an invisible of world. Take the stars we see during night but they seem to disappear during the day. It doesn’t mean the stars are not there but we simply can’t see them because the sunlight hides them. If this is true for the stars what else in our world is invisible? Time is also invisible yet it is one of the most important things. Modern physicists say that time does not exist but I find this statement false. Although time can be abstract it is a necessity to organize your daily life. Yes time is invisible but it is equally important. Emotions can also be seen as invisible but it is our way to interact with one another. Sure when you first think about emotions what do they really do for you, well they help you distinguish weather you are happy, sad, anger, shocked, and etc. I look at invisibility as a form of magic. It is something that cannot be explained yet there is still a capability for it to work. In our galaxy there are over 100 billion planets we can only see five. Why those five and not any other five? Is a question I ask myself. Gravity is one of the least under stood invisibilities. No scientist can understand how gravity works because it is invisible. It is crazy for me to think that we are barley able to understand one percent of the knowledge in this world. Logic will tell you the closer get to an object you are able to see it. However that is incorrect the closer you get to an object makes it more difficult for you to see. As you get closer the neutrons and electrons are not capable of being seen. Objects that change slowly become invisible. We are constantly loosing and replacing cells over the past 7 years. The changes are so slow that it is hard for you to see the changes actually happening. Visible or invisibility as long as we focus on living a happy and for filling life at the end nothing else should matter. Time for kids have written an article about Malala Yousafzai. Malala Yousafza is 17 year old girl who stands up for the rights of all people to receive education. When she turned 11 years old she began blogging about the he Taliban takeover of her hometown of Mingora and how they believed how women should not go to school and get an education. In 2012, the Taliban shot Malala Yousafzai in the head. The Taliban thought they had “silenced” her but instead “…out of that silence came thousands of voices...” Mala Yousafzai stands up for what she believes in by encouraging all people get an education.

11/24/2014 The following story come from the USA Today article dated November 24, 2014. The article speaks to the final verdict in the killing black teenager. This sad story highlights how stereotypes can be disruptive however in this cause can be tragic. In this situation the stereotypes consist of a white police officer assuming a black teenager may harm him. While the officer pulled the Michael Brown victim of the shocking over he thought his young man might harm him at a certain extent. On the hand the teenager may have thought that being a black teenager automatically makes him a suspect that was doing something terrible wrong or will do something terrible wrong. The thing that aggravated this situation is the white police officer may have thought that this teenager would do harm due to previous experiences or stories. Stereotypes are very closely assaulted with previous biases to better ourselves we need to be more conscious on how these situations may affect ourselves and other people. Doing this we can have less stereotypes and better our world. http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2014/11/23/ferguson-justice-mob-rule-investigation-federal-role-stories-column/19457689/ |
