In 1941, the Nazi party has finally invaded Romania. Many of the families had a chance to flee some did and others like Wiesel’s stayed and hoped the Red army would come rescue them. Wiesel’s family could have fled by chose to stay because they did not want to leave everything behind and start a new life. Now Wiesel’s father had a high position in the Jewish Council so he and the family had some to lose. I do however wondered if the father of Elizer Wiesel’s does have any regrets about not moving his family. Within days of the arrival the Jewish people were already moved into the Ghettos. Being moved into the Ghettos they had the capability of running why didn’t they run or at least try to. Then from there they were sent to Poland to go to a Concentration Camp. Knowing how good the Germans (Hitler) were at strataging there plans is scary how good they were.
As being Catholics we know that we should do the right thing. During the time they were taking all the Jews somewhere terrible why didn’t they do anything about it. They did not speak up they were quiet and just stayed in there homes and continued to do there daily lives. It is very sad knowing that they did not speak up, but at the same time they would be sacrificing their own life and could put their family life in danger too.
This book so far is filled with so much sadness yet I feel that as I continue to read it there will be so much more hope that Wiesel will experience. In reading this short piece of the story I am already able to see how Wiesel’s character is slowly losing his humanity. I do however look forward in knowing when he gets his humanity back, I do believe he will get his humanity back. How do you lose humanity at age 13? I hope to also read and see if he keeps the same faith that he started with in the beginning of the story or if it disappears. I hope that as I read the story I get to see how Elizer Wiesel grows with his faith, humanity, and hope.
